01 Overview


Microsoft DOS ( Disk Operating System ) is a
command line user interface.  MS-DOS 1.0 was
released in 1981 for IBM computers and the
latest version of MS-DOS is MS-DOS 6.22, released in 1994.
A command line interface ( MS-DOS or an emulation of it )
continues to be available in each new version of Microsoft.
To get a DOS window , click start / Run and type "command"
( Win9.x and Windows ME ) or by typing "cmd" in Windows NT,
Windows 2000 or  Windows XP.

To see a list of all commands, type 'Help' in a DOS window.

To capture the information in a file, type

Help > doscommands.txt

The > symbols directs the output of the DOS command to the fle.
